Taste of Danbury Season: A Fall Refresh for Apartment Kitchens

Small kitchens get messy fast. Here is a one-afternoon refresh that makes a big difference.

The short answer

Focus on the microwave, the backsplash, cabinet fronts, the sink, and the recycling area. In a small kitchen, those five spots make the biggest visible difference in the least time.

Each September, Taste of Danbury brings local restaurants to the CityCenter Green downtown. For apartment residents nearby, it is a reminder of how much of life happens around food, including the takeout containers and quick dinners that leave a small kitchen looking tired by the end of summer.

1. The microwave

Heat a bowl of water with a little lemon or vinegar for a few minutes, let it steam, then wipe the inside. Clean the turntable separately and wipe the door and handle.

2. The backsplash

Splatters build up behind the stove and sink. Spray, let the cleaner sit for a minute, then wipe. Check the grout lines too.

3. Cabinet fronts and handles

  • Wipe doors from the top down, especially near the stove.
  • Clean handles and knobs, the most-touched spots.
  • Check the toe kick at the bottom, where spills land.

4. The sink

Scrub the basin, wipe the faucet, and clean around the drain. A clean sink makes the whole kitchen look better.

5. Recycling and trash

  1. Rinse containers before they go in the bin.
  2. Wash the recycling and trash bins themselves.
  3. Wipe the floor and wall beside them.
