Deep Clean vs. Standard Clean vs. Move-Out Clean

What each service includes, side by side, and a simple way to pick the right one.

The short answer

A standard clean maintains a home that is already in decent shape. A deep clean adds the detail work routine visits skip, like inside appliances, cabinets, fixtures, and grout. A move-out clean has deep-clean scope but is done in an empty home, so it reaches inside every cabinet, closet, and drawer.

Cleaning companies use these three terms constantly, and the differences matter: book the wrong one and you either pay for detail work you did not need or end up with a clean that does not reach the places you cared about. Here is how they compare.

What a standard cleaning includes

A standard, or basic, cleaning is the routine visit. In our residential cleaning that means:

  • Kitchen counters, sink, cabinet fronts, and appliance exteriors
  • Bathrooms: showers, tubs, toilets, sinks, vanities, and floors
  • Dusting, baseboards, trim, switches, sills, and blinds
  • Interior glass, plus vacuuming and mopping throughout

Spot-cleaning inside the oven and refrigerator, laundry folding, and linen changes are available on request.

What a deep cleaning adds

A deep clean includes everything above plus:

  • Inside ovens, refrigerators, and other appliances
  • Inside cabinets, drawers, and pantry shelving
  • Inside vanities and medicine cabinets
  • Ceiling fans, light fixtures, and high surfaces
  • Window tracks and grout scrubbing

What makes a move-out clean different

A move-out cleaning has similar detail to a deep clean, but the home is empty. That lets the team clean inside and behind appliances where they can be reached, inside every cabinet, closet, and shelf, inside laundry appliances, and HVAC vents, and finish floors wall to wall.

Side by side

Standard

Best for: homes on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly schedule.
Typical time: about 2.5 to 3 hours for a well-kept 2,000 sq ft home with two cleaners.

Deep

Best for: first visits, seasonal resets, or before hosting.
Typical time: about 4 to 6 hours for a 2,000 to 2,500 sq ft home.

Move-out

Best for: empty homes before a lease ends, a closing, or move-in day.
Typical time: about 3 to 4 hours for a two-bedroom apartment.

Regular vs. deep cleaning for an apartment

The difference is the same as in a house; the job is just smaller. Renters often book a deep clean when they first move in or after a long gap, then switch to standard visits. If you are leaving the apartment, book a move-out clean instead, once your belongings are gone.

How to choose

  1. Is the home empty? Choose move-out (or move-in).
  2. Has it been months since a thorough clean? Choose deep.
  3. Is it already in good shape? Choose standard on a schedule.

Not sure? Describe the home in your quote request and we will recommend a service.

Examples: which would you book?

  • You have not had a cleaner in a year and want to start biweekly visits: a deep clean first, then standard visits.
  • Family is arriving next weekend and the house is in fair shape: a deep clean if the kitchen and bathrooms need detail work, otherwise a standard clean.
  • Your lease ends Friday and the truck comes Thursday: a move-out clean on Thursday evening or Friday.
  • Your home is cleaned every two weeks already: stay with standard visits and add a deep clean once or twice a year.

Choosing a service questions

What is the difference between a regular cleaning and a deep cleaning for an apartment?

A regular cleaning maintains surfaces, bathrooms, and floors. A deep cleaning adds inside appliances, cabinets, and drawers, fixtures, window tracks, and grout. The difference is the same in an apartment as in a house; the job is smaller.

What does a standard cleaning service include?

Kitchen counters, sink, cabinet fronts, and appliance exteriors; bathrooms; dusting, baseboards, sills, and blinds; interior glass; and vacuuming and mopping throughout.

What does a basic house cleaning service include?

A basic or standard cleaning covers the rooms you use every day: kitchen surfaces, bathrooms, dusting, and floors. Detail work like inside appliances and cabinets belongs to a deep clean.

Is a move-out clean the same as a deep clean?

It has similar detail, but it is done in an empty home, so it reaches inside every cabinet, closet, and drawer and finishes floors wall to wall.
