Village Fair Days in New Milford: A Front Entry Refresh

The short answer

Spend one afternoon on the door, the hardware, the light fixture, the mat, and the inside of the entry. Wipe from top to bottom, shake out or replace the mat, and clear clutter from the hall floor.

Each July, Village Fair Days fills the Village Green in downtown New Milford with sidewalk sales, food, and live music. Nearby, the Saturday farmers market and shows at the Bank Street Theater keep the downtown busy all summer. When friends stop by on the way home, the first part of your house they see is the front entry.

Outside the door

  • Brush cobwebs from the door frame, overhang, and porch ceiling.
  • Wipe the door, starting at the top, and the handle, lock, and knocker.
  • Clean the porch light, which collects insects in summer.
  • Shake out the doormat or replace a worn one.
  • Sweep the steps and porch floor.

Inside the door

  1. Clear shoes, bags, and mail from the floor.
