Moving to North Salem: A Move-In Cleaning Checklist

The short answer

Clean after the previous owners leave and before your furniture arrives. Focus on kitchen cabinets and appliances, bathrooms, closets and shelves, and every floor, because you will never see them this empty again.

North Salem is a town of hamlets: Salem Center, where Town Hall sits on Titicus Road; Croton Falls along Route 22 with its Metro-North station; and the Purdys area near the Purdy's station on Titicus Road. Timing it right

  • Wipe inside cabinets and drawers before dishes go in.
  • Clean the refrigerator, oven, and microwave inside and out.
  • Scrub the sink and wipe the counters and backsplash.

Bathrooms

Toilets, tubs, showers, sinks, mirrors, and the insides of vanities and medicine cabinets. Replace the shower curtain liner if one was left behind.

Closets and shelves

Dust shelves and rods, wipe built-ins, and vacuum closet floors before clothes and linens go in.

Floors and the rest

  1. Dust ceiling fans, light fixtures, and window sills.
  2. Wipe baseboards, switch plates, and door handles.
  3. Vacuum and mop every room, starting at the far end of the house.
