The short answer
Set a Monday reset after each guest weekend: strip and wash beds, clean the guest bathroom, restock, and run a floor pass. Keep a ready-to-go guest kit so the next visit takes minutes to prep, and book regular cleaning visits through the summer.
Summer in Pound Ridge is busy. The town calendar has included a Memorial Day Parade, Food Truck Fridays, a Lobster Festival, and July 4 fireworks, and Ward Pound Ridge Reservation draws hikers all season. Many families host friends and relatives on summer weekends, sometimes back to back.
Build a guest kit
- Two full sets of sheets and towels per guest bed
- A basket of toiletries, a phone charger, and a water glass
- A spare blanket for cool country nights
- A small flashlight for paths to the car
The Monday reset
- Strip beds and start the laundry.
- Clean the guest bathroom: shower, toilet, sink, mirror, floor.
- Remake beds with the second set.
- Restock the guest kit.
- Vacuum guest rooms and the entry.
Country mudroom
Trail boots, wet swimsuits, and muddy dogs come through the side door. Keep a boot tray, hooks, and a towel bin there, and vacuum or sweep often. For pet homes, see cleaning with pets.
Porch and screened rooms
Wipe porch furniture weekly and sweep screened rooms where leaves, pollen, and insects collect. Rinse removable cushion covers according to care labels.
Regular summer help
For homes that host most weekends, a weekly or biweekly cleaning visit on a weekday keeps the house ready, and linen changes are available on request. You do not need to be home.
