Cleaning Guide

Do You Leave the House When Cleaners Come?

Many clients are at work or out running errands on cleaning day. Here is how that works.

The short answer

You can do either. Many clients leave and share entry instructions: a key, lockbox, or garage code, plus an alarm code if the system is on. If you stay, the team works around you room by room.

Some Ridgefield clients like to be home for the first visit and walk the team through the house. Others are commuting from Branchville or out for the day and never see us at all. Both are normal. What matters is that the team can get in and knows your priorities.

If you leave

Most recurring clients are out during the visit. Before the appointment, tell us how the team gets in:

  • Key or lockbox: where it is, and whether we keep a key between visits.
  • Garage or door code: the code, and which door to use.
  • Alarm: turn it off before the visit or give us the code. Our terms ask for this so the crew is never locked out or set off the alarm.
  • Notes: rooms to focus on, rooms to skip, and anything fragile.

If a crew can't get in or is turned away at the door, a fee of half the visit applies, so confirm entry the day before if anything has changed.

If you stay

Staying home is fine, too, especially if you work from home. Tell us which room you will be working in and when you have calls, and we will plan the visit around it.

First visit: worth being there

If you can, be home for the start of the first visit. A five-minute walkthrough of priorities, problem spots, and off-limits areas means every later visit runs on the same plan, even when you are out.

Pets while you are out

Tell us about pets when you book. Some are happiest in a closed room or crate during the visit; others follow the team around. Leave instructions for gates and doors so nobody gets out.

After the visit

We inspect our work before leaving. If you get home and find something was missed, contact us within 24 hours and we will come back to correct it.
