The short answer

No, you don't need to clean first. What helps is a quick pick-up: clear the floors, tidy the counters, and put away valuables and papers so the team can reach every surface. Leave the actual cleaning to us.

It is one of the most common questions we hear from new clients around Lake Mahopac: should I clean before you come? The honest answer is no. You are paying for the cleaning, so there is no reason to do it twice. A few minutes of tidying, though, lets the team spend the visit on cleaning instead of moving your things.

Pick up, don't clean

Our terms ask clients to clear the floors, tidy up the counters, and put away valuables and important documents before the team arrives. House cleaners are not usually asked to organize personal items, and if a surface is covered, it may be skipped. That is the whole reason for the pick-up.

  • Floors: toys, shoes, laundry baskets, and pet bowls off the floor so it can be vacuumed and mopped edge to edge.
  • Counters: mail, dishes, and small appliances you use daily moved aside or put away.
  • Valuables and paperwork: jewelry, cash, medications, and documents put away.
  • Dishes: loaded in the dishwasher or stacked by the sink, so the sink can be scrubbed.

What to leave for the team

Leave the dusting, bathrooms, kitchen surfaces, and floors. That is the work on our checklist, and we bring all the equipment and supplies. If you would like us to use a specific product on a surface, or a greener product, tell us when we confirm the quote.

If you would rather we pick up and organize as well, we can. That time is added to the visit, so mention it when you book and we will include it in the quote.

Pets and access

Secure pets in a room or crate if they are nervous around visitors or vacuums, and leave any instructions. If you won't be home, share how the team gets in: a key, lockbox, or garage code, and an alarm code if your system is on. When a crew can't get in, a fee applies under our terms, so it is worth confirming the day before.

The first visit

A first visit usually takes longer than routine upkeep, especially if it has been a while since the home had a thorough clean. A pick-up beforehand helps most on that first visit. After that, a regular house cleaning plan in Mahopac keeps things from building up.

Cleaning day prep questions

Do I need to clean before the house cleaner comes?

No. A quick pick-up helps, so the team can reach every surface, but the cleaning itself is our job.

What should I put away before the cleaners arrive?

Valuables, important documents, and items on floors and counters, so the team can reach every surface.

Will the cleaners move my things?

Cleaners aren't usually asked to organize personal items, and a covered surface may be skipped. If you want us to pick up and organize, ask for it in your quote; that time is added to the visit.

Do you bring your own supplies?

Yes. We provide all equipment and supplies. Tell us if you want a specific product used on a surface.
